- Chemical Storage Cabinets
Dangerous cleaning chemicals are usually stored somewhere in the kitchen. Make chemical storage safer by first making sure that this area is inaccessible to small children and second by placing zeolites in this area. Most chemicals are stable in the containers that are provided by the manufacturer, but almost all contain warnings not to mix with other chemicals. Chemicals may become toxic when mixed. Sprinkle about 1/2 inch of zeolite in the bottom of a plastic tray or box and place chemical bottles on top. The zeolite will absorb common spills or leaks that may occur. Disposal: TRASH. Follow all local and state guidelines for disposal of all chemical products.
- Fruit & Vegetable Storage
Put fresh fruit or vegetables in a gallon size, sealable, plastic bag along with 1/2 cup of zeolite and seal (smaller amounts of zeolite may be used in smaller bags).Place the bag in your normal storage area for this particular produce, i.e. refrigerator crisper, countertop or cupboard. The zeolite will extend the life of your fruits and vegetables by absorbing ethylene gases produced as they ripen. Just remove produce as needed, rinse and eat. Zeolite is an all natural mineral and not harmful, but can be a little gritty if consumed. Be sure to reseal the bag. It works excellently on grapefruit, lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines and tomatoes. It also works well on apples, asparagus, avocados, bananas, cantaloupes, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplants, green beans, figs, honeydew melons, leafy greens, lettuce, mangos, okra, peas, peaches, pears, peppers, plums, prunes, squash and many others.
Tip: For best results, start with a new plastic bag, fresh zeolite and fresh produce each time. If storing produce for extended periods of time, replace zeolite every 12 weeks. Keep only one type of produce in each bag. One bag of apples, another of bananas, another of tomatoes and so on. Do not store tomatoes or potatoes in the refrigerator. Do not store potatoes and onions together. They both emit gases that are detrimental to the other. Go ahead; give it a try on some of your favorite fruits and vegetables. You will be amazed at the difference it makes and delighted at the money you will save on spoiled fruits and vegetables. Disposal: RECYCLE
